Gardners Falls
Location: Maleny
Price: FREE
What is it? An oasis like waterfall enclosed by amazing greenery.
Why do it? To have a refreshing swim and place to relax among the trees.
When to go? Weekdays are the best time to go to ensure minimal crowds.
Highlights: The several rock jumping opportunities into the swimming hole below. It’s only a 10 minute drive from Maleny high street as well which is the perfect place to grab a tasty lunch.
Explore at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve
Location: Maleny

What is it? 55 hectares of pristine subtropical rainforest. This living window into the past showcases what the hinterland resembled years before human settlement.
Why do it? Because the well-maintained paths blend seamlessly into the lush surroundings here. You’ll be guided naturally through the rainforest with the chance to get up close and personal with some of its inhabitants. Red-legged pademelons reside here in small family groups and are amazingly cute.
When to go? Early in the morning and late in the afternoon is when the Mary Cairncross Reserve comes alive.
Highlights: Admiring the view of the Glass House Mountains from the observation deck above the cafe. Here you’ll get one of the best views of the Glass House Mountains available.
Montville
Location: Montville

What is it? A sleepy hinterland town that comes alive on the weekend with smiling visitors from near and far.
Why do it? Because it offers stunning panoramic views up and down the coast. Here you’ll find some of the best restaurant views in South East Queensland with excellent service.
When to go? Midday makes for a great time to visit. The steady flow of visitors creates a great atmosphere for you to enjoy a lunch with a view followed by a stroll in the shops.
Highlights: Mayfield Patisserie and Chocolates, located at the top of the main street, serve up not only award-winning sausage rolls but also one of the best views too. The main street is boarded by small boutiques, galleries and an old pub perfect for the weary traveller.
The Mapleton Falls Lookout
Location: Mapleton
Price: FREE
What is it? This hidden gem is an absolute cracker. The built-out platform offers a jaw-dropping view over the massive 120m high waterfall which rains down into the valley below.
Why do it? To experience one of the best lookouts available in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It also has an inviting 1.2km walk which loops through the lush sub-tropical rainforest bordering the waterfall. This is called the Wompoo Circuit.
When to go? There never seems to be too many visitors here which makes it great for a day out exploring. There’s even facilities to have a picnic in the open grassed area before the rainforest walk begins.
Highlights: Visiting just in time to catch the sunset. It’s panoramic view of the distant ranges gives a fantastic view of sundown.
